We have customers all over the world that hire bikes through us whilst on holiday, we enjoy meeting new customers and ensuring they have a great experience. As a small business we focus on the service side of the industry offering what the internet doesn’t. Bike servicing, bike repairs, bike hire, second hand bikes and with a great range of parts, accessories and clothing we’ve got you covered.
Hi, I’m Tom! My cycling journey began with the Oxonian Cycling Club as a youngster. Whilst at secondary school I did two weeks work experience at a local, family run bike shop Giles Cycles in Carterton. I was offered a part time job and that was the start of my career in the cycle industry. As a keen racing cyclist I was successful and in 2009 set the National 25 mile junior time trial record with a time of 50 minutes 4 seconds. A hobby then turned into what is now a successful business, with younger brother Rob as a business partner and our two good friends working for us. Outside of work I enjoy keeping fit, exploring the great outdoors and following the Moto GP and British Superbikes.
Hi, I’m Rob! I found the love for cycling at the age of nine, when I started competing for Oxonian cycling club in cyclo cross shortly followed by time trialling, before moving onto sponsored teams focusing on road racing.
I don’t compete these days but still clock up plenty of miles and enjoy a good cafe stop! Having only ever worked in the cycle trade bikes are a big part of my life. I enjoy cycling (obviously), hiking, travelling and exploring.
Known as Obbsie, I’ve been working in Oxfordshire cycle shops since 1990, firstly at Broadribbs lightweight specialists in Oxford then Giles Cycles in Carterton. I have a passion for all things retro and love nothing more than to be fettling with my fleet of 80s road bikes and Raleigh Burners. I have been a keen member of local cycling clubs and enjoyed many years of competitive cycling in Time Trials and Cyclo Cross. I enjoy wheel building which I have been doing since I cut my teeth in Oxford but still get a buzz from stripping down and rebuilding Sturmey Archer Hubs. I have Cytech 3 qualification with advanced wheel building, hydraulic braking systems and suspension systems certification. My hobbies include cycles, motorcycles and loud music plus the odd beer or two.
Hi, I’m Jim and I’m the oldest new boy here at TY Cycles. My earliest cycling memory is ruining my parents garden by ploughing through their flower beds on my 3 speed tricycle. Since passing my cycling proficiency (how old!!) I have graduated to bigger and better things although Obbsie would argue that there’s nothing better than a 70’s steel framed 3 speed tricycle! Ninety percent of my recent cycling experience has been here, in and around the Cotswolds, the other ten percent has been cycle touring the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
Here at TY Cycles you’ll find me learning the cycle hire ropes and getting to grips with the dark art of indexing gears!
